The New Romantics in Web Design!Romance . . . that captivating, passionate spirit can be a motivating factor when designing websites that sell certain products or services. For example, wedding services or products are an excellent medium for romantic web design styling. But how can you achieve it without becoming clichéd and predictable? You know what I mean. The red hearts, script typefaces and soft pastel colors typically used to suggest romance. Yawn . . . been there, done that.
The "new-romantics" web design style appeals to today's consumers without falling into a predictable pattern or style.
First, take note of the color palette. There are two colors used primarily in the palette, black and teal. The teal is the predominant color with black serving as the accent. While not colors normally associated with romance, they work well as a modern romantic palette. I have de-saturated the Teal color until it becomes polite, refined and timeless. In that setting the touches of Black look very formal. The two colors then become a formal, elegant background for the images. The black and white image on the cover is formal, elegant, but also possessing a sense of movement and depth that makes it the perfect centerpiece of the page. Providing a pleasant contrast to the teal and black is the full color image of the woman in a wedding gown. If you notice, there is just a bit of color in the skin tones and soft pinks in the flowers. This is a pleasant contrast to the Teal background and looks perfectly appropriate backed by the Black and Teal color palette. Attention to detail is critical to the success of this web design. Note how everything on the page conforms to the overall color palette and style of the sight. Nothing sticks out as inconsistent. This enhances the sense of refinement and romance in this design. So, there you have it! New-romantic web design for the new millennium! |
